Beyond October: Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Every October is tagged Cybersecurity Awareness month, where different organizations share the importance of Cybersecurity/cyber hygiene.

However, if you're new to understanding what securing your online account entails, one month is not enough to embrace it as a habit; talk more of a lifestyle.

According to James Clear, it takes anywhere from two months to eight months to incorporate new behaviour into your daily lifestyle. This time frame is dependent on many factors - the individual, level of commitment, among others.

Techity Consulting is based in Canada but can serve clients outside Canada. The Canadian Centre for Cybersecurity has a national cybersecurity awareness campaign called GetCyberSafe. Every week in October, they explored different themes - Staying In Touch, Sharing Special Moments, Working and Networking, Family and Businesses.

The first step can be to take each broad theme, for example, and identify ways to implement their suggestions weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

The second step will be implementing the recommendations and keeping track of your progress as required. It is normal to start something new with excitement, but it seldom likely maintains the same drive/passion. At this point, it'll be the consistency that'll drive the necessary change you seek.
