Generative AI & your small business
Small businesses have a lot to gain from the use of AI tools.
AI has the potential to automate routine tasks, save time and money, and provide more insights than manual labour. Small businesses can become more efficient, accurate, and profitable by utilizing AI tools.
As part of our 2023 tech predictions, the first on our list was increased AI adoption for daily business operations. In this first quarter of 2023, multiple software vendors have launched AI tools/features that it has been hard to keep up with.
Here are some of the recently announced AI offerings:
- Google launched Bard
- Microsoft shortly launched its AI tool to work with Bing in the Edge browser
- Microsoft introduced AI features in Microsoft Teams Premium
- Opera has announced plans to embed ChatGPT in their browsers
- Notion launched Notion AI and recently made it generally available
- E-commerce platforms like Shopify have introduced Shopify Magic to create AI-generated product descriptions
- Canva has launched Magic Write to create AI-generated content and so much more.
While these developments are significant, they can overwhelm small business owners in choosing the right AI tool that fits their business needs. There is also a risk of misinformation from the content generated as the tool pulls from learned data and may not piece together information accurately.
We recommend using AI for generating content with the theme - "Trust but verify." Verify the responses/information before using it on your website/social media. We have also seen cases where sites mentioned that the blog post/caption is AI-generated.
There have also been rumours about using AI content impacting your website's ranking in Google Search. Google has debunked that assumption. Including AI with the primary purpose of manipulating the order in search results violates their spam policies. AI-generated content does not impact your ranking in Google Search.
The recent launches are the beginning of the many features/apps/services that OpenAI/ChatGPT will power. Soon, the services/software small business owners use for their daily operations will have AI features.
