Beyond October: Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Every October is tagged Cybersecurity Awareness month, where different organizations share the importance of Cybersecurity/cyber hygiene.

However, if you're new to understanding what securing your online account entails, one month is not enough to embrace it as a habit; talk more of a lifestyle.

According to James Clear, it takes between two to eight months to incorporate new behaviour into your daily lifestyle. This time frame depends on many factors - the individual and level of commitment, among others.

Techity Consulting is based in Canada but serves clients within and outside Canada. For example, the Canadian Centre for Cybersecurity has a national cybersecurity awareness campaign called GetCyberSafe. Every week in October, they explored themes - Staying In Touch, Sharing Special Moments, Working and Networking, Family and Businesses.

The first step can be to take each broad theme, for example, and identify ways to implement their suggestions weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

The second step will be implementing the recommendations and keeping track of your progress as required. Starting something new with excitement is normal, but it seldom likely maintains the same drive/passion. At this point, it'll be the consistency that'll drive the necessary change you seek.
